    Internet bandwidth monitor

    Hi guys, im getting internet soon but it will be shared by 3 users, what can i use to see who uses how much data? The internet is supplied using 2.4Ghz wirrless and a microtick 411 or 433 routerboard(not sure if i have a 411 or 433),

    Well, firstly you will need a proxy server (physical or on the interwebs) through which everyone will need to connect through.

    From there, depending if you want a physical or online server, we should be able to give you better advise on which software to use.

    Personally I normally use something like smoothwall which is a small linux distro that is designed as a firewall/proxy server. It can provide breakdowns of bandwidth use per user too. Something like that is really simple to setup because it is just used on a machine with 2 network cards, 1 for the connection to the mikrotik and one for the connection to your lan. It does the natting etc from there.

    Well if you really want to set up a server for 3xPC's then go for microsoft ISA 2006 or forefront. Otherwise go for the linux options if u know linux.

    Smoothwall or IPCop or IPFire.
    Learn a little *nix and some new skills If you don't already them.
    It is really really easy and simple.

    I've also used IPcop before but cant remember if it had bandwith usage statistics. Really easy to set up and u dont even have to have a strong pc for it
