you need to get back here so you can continue with this thing and so that you can post us some REAL pics of what hardware you got.
also see you want to do something with Arduino. saw it in action on a Cosmos 2 build so hope the things you want it to do before shutdown is pretty cool.
wish I could help, but no knowledge of that kinda sucks. I do however think the idea you have of having the "shutdown signal" activate it to be correct (or at least something in that line)
