Ivy Bridge![]()
Hello community.
So I have been running my sandybridge setup for the best part of 4 months which replaced my ol faithfull 1366 platform, but I have bought at a time where there is a avalanche of CPU architecture coming out, what compounds matters is my friend now has a better rig than I do buying a 2011 setup. I am considering whether to;
1) go with a X79/3820(upgrade later) setup and get locked in but utilize the better PCI-e channels.
2) go with ivybridge which may or maynot be much better than the existing contemporary chips.
3) hold out for Haswell
4) hope and pray that AMD's Piledriver or Steamroller are marked improvements.
Thanks for any advise or information in this regard.![]()

It all depends what you use the system for?
If it is purely for E-peen resoans and you got the bucks get X79, but you will notice a minimal difference between what you got now.
By the looks of things Ivy is looking good, some samples do 5Ghz at 1.27v(if memory serves) so it might be more worth your while waiting.
Money would be better spent on another gfx card, or an SSD in my opinion.

I will look at the 3770K and I am currently waiting for 3rd party benchmarks for Nvidia's 600 series, I am somewhat of a Nvidia fanboy so I will hold out with the GTX560ti till then consider a GTX680. I am waiting on my Crucial M4 128GB SSD to arrive so that department is sorted.
I think I will go Ivy and sell my 2500K, by then it wouldn't have lost to much value, I will get PCI-e 3.0 support and hopefully a shiny new i7 (need HT).![]()

wait for Haswell processors..
Thought about plan B or alternative to platform upgrade plan. I will look at buying a high end GPU from either Nvidia or AMD, and look at watercooling and modding. Can't see anything soon causing a Sandybridge bottleneck issues.
