    Upgrade Help

    Hey guys

So I have a budget of R5000 at the moment and I really really need to upgrade.

    My current system is:

    Intel core i3 2100
    Asus p8h61m-lx
    4GB Generic DDR3 1333mHz
    500W PSU
    Nvidia geforce 9600GT -_-

Had a 5770 but it died on me a few weeks ago.

Can you guys maybe advise on what will be the best bang for the buck?

    Thanks so much

    Re: Upgrade Help

I'm mainly using it for gaming and so on. I want to start jamming bf3.
I'll have some more cash in say about 2-3 months to upgrade the cpu and so on.

I was thinking a of getting XFX HD6950 XXX Edition 2GB AMD Radeon HD 6950 GPU at landmark for R3199.98
A psu - not quite sure what, some ram and a case. My chassis at the moment is to small to fit any high end card.

    Thanks

    I will assume the PSU is generic and hence hairy scary so for that matter I would consider;

Keep your H61 motherboard, you will save buck and you really don't get that much performance gain from a motherboard. It has a PCI-e 2.0 essentially thats where you gains will come from. You can also keep your RAM, if you feel iffy about the RAM Mushkin Silverline, G.Skill RipJawsX/Snipers 1333 sets will sort that out just fine. For a CPU I would throw in a i5 2400 which is around R1800 thereabouts and at stock speeds will run with a 2500K more or less.

For a PSU, I run a single card (560ti and overclocked system) of a Coolermaster GX550(Bronze rated) with enough capacity. It is reasonably cheap around the R600 range, alternatively you can look at Corsairs CX(builders Series) or GS PSU, or Silverstone ST50 all are suitable for single card and/or moderately overclocked setups targeting mid level enthusiast builds. A GPU, it would be nice to throw in a GTX560ti/6950 but a 6870 should be more than copious.

BF3 will more than likely limit you on the GPU side, a i3 2100 is more than capable of running the single player on max detail if the GPU is capable, that said a 2400 will not be your problem. Don't know what screen you are running and what res, that will ultimately determine whether you can run it on high or ultra somewhere in between. The multiplayer game is a lot more CPU intensive so a 2400 will be spot on.
