Nobody at all?

According to the supported CPU list, the FX4100 is not supported. Rev 3.1 of that board would have worked. I very much doubt a bios update will help (specs even list the rev 3.0 as socket AM3, vs rev 3.1 which has socket AM3+) but if you're willing you could try flash it with the newer revs bios, see what happens. But dont blame me if something goes boom

I had a feeling this may be the problem.

Would non compatibility stop the board from posting? I haven't used AMD in years so not sure what their normal behaviour is.

Am3+ CPU needs a AM3+ Socket and im pretty sure will not work at all on a AM3 socket., there's a reason they put the "+" in the socket number. You can try a BIOS upodate but dont think it will help TBH, but read the BIOS update info and see if it adds compatibility. If not, your stuck with incompatibility. Soz dude
