    Re: PPC Import Januarie

Ok just to help everyone out(mostly andrem).

For all of you guys spamming him with links and details of what you'd like to order. Please do the following before asking him about prices. He's doing everyone a FAVOUR by organizing the ppc orders. He's not a reseller and he's not doing this for profit as you guys should know buy now. I for one actually believe he should be charging a fee for all the effort he's putting into this. People dont realize that banking charges are "a lot" and tranfering money isnt always "free". hint hint at all you cash deposit *******s out there.

I've imported my "waterbox's stuff" myself and know first hand now of all the "hidden/surprise" costs. After you order from PPC they ship it off to the airport where it gets shipping to SA. Now for those of you that dont know, they ask you if you would like to take insurance on the stuff you've just ordered. You dont have to... but its recommended. (my insurance was $47... outch)

Now the basic formula for getting a "rough" estimate on the ammount of "moola" you need for a ppc order is as follows:

    Info you need:
    Total of your PPC order
    Rand/Dollar exchange rate
    Shipping
    Paypal fee is 2.9% + $0.30
    Customs fee is 15.4%

Let say you order $50 worth of items
    Rand/Dollar is R8.15 per Dollar
    Shipping will be $25
    Paypal is + 2.9%
    Customs is + 15.4%

The maths would look like thisfor those who dont know the 1.029 is the 2.9% Paypal fee and the 1.154 is the Customs fee just in decimal terms)

    Items x ZAR = Total x Papal fee = Total x Customs = Total + Shipping = Grand Total
    $50 x R8.15 = R407.50 x 1.029 = R419.32 x 1.154 = R483.90 + ($25 x R8.15 = 203.75) = R687.65

Then obviously add what local shipping option you prefer from andrem to you

Obviously there are advantages to ordering as a group, but it only helps on the shipping. If you dont mind paying the extra $20-40 dollars then you might aswell order by yourself. I would just recommend ordering with andrem and alike since they already know about the hidden costs and have dealt with SARS and Customs and obviously PPC before.

Really hope that the info I've now will help some of you guys out. Let me know if I've missed anything

I find it easiest to take the total in ZAR and add 20% (multiply by 1.2) which gives me slightly more than the final value.

One correction to your formula. Customs don't get hefted on shipping.

    Re: PPC Import Januarie

Ah thx Ori, i missed that will fix it now

Nyt. bud... think... Yes my order was huge... but if you guys all order together, so will that order too. And as a group that "insurance fee" if taken needs to be spread out fairly. I have no idea what the insurance fee is... but I would guess about 5-7% or total value. Calculating all of this is not an easy thing to do. Hence andrem's awesome excel sheet.

Once again... Ordering together ONLY helps you save a bit on shipping. If you cant wait and you are willing to pay the extra $40 then by all means order by yourself, you will end up saving the shipping from andrem to you.
