Accidents happen, especially when you try to avoid them. But rest assured that ASRock’s latest ATX sized OC Formula Series motherboards, including Z87 OC Formula/ac (with 802.11ac WiFi support) and Z87 OC Formula are protected by a special layer of Conformal Coating. As you’ve probably already heard, Conformal Coating protects the motherboards from conductive liquids, dust, corrosion and extreme temperatures*. And if you still feel skeptical about the lifespan of your overclocking oriented motherboards, fear not – ASRock guarantees 5 year warranty...
A system built with thousands of Intel processors and co-processors was just named the most powerful supercomputer in the world in the 41st edition of the Top500 list of supercomputers.

The system, known as “Milky Way 2,” includes 48,000 Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors and 32,000 Intel Xeon processors and operates at a peak performance of 54.9 PFlops (54.9 quadrillion floating point operations per second) — more than twice the performance of the top rated system from the last edition of the Top500 list in November 2012. This is the first exclusively Intel-based system to take the top spot on the list since 1997...
Exactly two years ago, when I tested a Bulldozer-based Zambezi CPU for the first time, I was shocked. The early sample units were even hotter and slower than the final silicon revision CPUs, which were finally released four months later. One of the largest single let-down came from the way back: SuperPI.

SuperPI mainly uses legacy x87 instructions which have been almost completely superseded. SuperPI doesn’t show any indication what so ever about SMP performance as it can only utilize a single thread. On top of that it has no real world use or purpose as there are newer programs which can calculate PI almost 100 times faster.

Still, SuperPI can almost be considered as a industry standard. Nowadays it is generally a VERY poor indicator of real world performance, yet it is very addictive for any old school overclocker. It scales very well along with the CPU/NB/DRAM/IO performance and tweaking it is a big challenge. An overclocker who hasn’t ever benched SuperPI simply doesn’t exist. SuperPI has a special place in my heart simply because it was one of the first benchmarks I ever ran… almost 14 years ago...
Back in April this year, GIGABYTE unveiled the WindForce 3X 450W cooler [link removed] which was to be used on the GeForce GTX Titan. The cooler is a dual-slot design and features three fans (known as Triangle Cool Technology) which cool two aluminum fin-stack heatsinks which are fed by no less than six copper heatpipes. Unfortunately, NVIDIA’s restrictive policy which prevented AIB partners from modifying air coolers on the cards was never lifted, but the guys at GIGABYTE have found a way to bypass the restriction...
Just hours ago, ASUS and G.SKILL claimed the DDR3 frequency record from ASRock, but HKEPC’s John Lam is far too stubborn to allow someone else to hold the record. Much like a tennis match, this has been a back-and-forth between ASUS and ASRock with the record changing hands three times in the last 24 hours. Once again using the ASRock Z87M OC Formula, John Lam swapped out the Team Group RAM for a module from Corsair’s new Vengeance Pro line rated at DDR3-3200 CL11 (model number CMY8GX3M2A3200C11)...
